We’re all leaders — even me as a nursing assistant in a nursing home.

We have a choice when confronted with a difficult situation: focus on what would help other people or just on our own fears.

Here’s the irony. Moving beyond our needs (not to the exclusion of them, or in a martyred way) allows us to see others as people — and for them to do the same with us.

And how much better is the outcome for all of us when we do that?
